During the early years of the war Monica’s mother was pregnant with her and was surrounded by an unsafe community. She disguised herself as a corpse in order to be taken out of her village. When Aneno Monica was born, they were unable to fully escape the war. Her brother was abducted by soldiers and forced to kill many people. Although he escaped he is still haunted by the terrible things that happened. Monica sought refuge in the local church, where she would pray for a better life. That is where she found out about the KK Uganda program. Today, she is able to support herself without aid thanks to the salary she earns at KK Uganda. She hopes to complete her education and start her own business after she completes the KK Uganda program.
