By the time she was nine years old, Mary was an orphan, living with her grandmother, and struggling to support her own education. Eventually, Mary relocated to Gulu to live with her aunt; however, during the war, her aunt was captured and her family’s property was destroyed which made her chances of being educated even more difficult. The KK Uganda program has given her the opportunity to talk with many other people dealing with similar issues and has also given her the finances to save the money required to return back to school.

I just wanted to thank you for the beautiful headband. I just cut my hair really short and headbands are my number one hair accessory. I can not wait to wear it to school. The crocheted flowers may give me an extra layer of warmth for it is the coldest winter I can remember here in the US and I live in one of the coldest states, Michigan. I received a beautiful cream coloured hat this Christmas from my mother hand made by you. I love it and I love this whole idea.
I live in Canada. It is a beautiful, free country with so many opportunities for women. I have a university education and worked for 10 years before becoming a mother. One of my children is a daughter and when I think of the things you overcome every day I try my best to be grateful, to honour you and all the other women around the globe struggling. Struggling with issues I can't imagine simply because of where I was born and where I continue to live.
